StylePit was founded in year 2000 under the name SmartGuy by four Danish entreprenours. The objective was to sell fashion apparel online. StylePit was established at a time when the so-called "IT bubble" burst and when several similar e-commerce concepts failed. Characteristic of several e-commerce concepts prior to the bursting of the IT bubble was the availability of venture capital, the involvement of experienced management resources from other industries and a general expectation that e-commerce would gain significant market shares from conventional retail traders within a short period of time.
StylePit's business concept and market approach, on the other hand, was based on sound business acumen, as StylePit wanted to grow in step with customers gaining increased online trading experience and resulting changes in consumption patterns. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, e-commerce still suffered from immature Internet penetration and a general distrust in delivery reliability and payment security, but these crucial factors have since improved for the benefit of e-commerce customers and retailers. Dedicated to generating profitable growth, StylePit's management has developed the business in step with the gradual maturing of the e-commerce market over the past 10 years.
